India’s Trail Running Boom: 3,000 Join Bengaluru Mountain Festival to Escape Urban Chaos

Avati, Devanahalli, Bengaluru Rural –28th January 2025: This weekend, nearly 3000 corporate professionals from across India traded the city streets for the serenity of nature at the Bengaluru Mountain Festival, hosted by Mountain Festival Adventures. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Avati’s hills, this single-track trail run introduced participants to a growing cultural phenomenon: trail running as a means to achieve a balanced mind and body.

With over 3,000 participants across 5K, 10K, and 21K categories, the event was a gathering of individuals seeking to redefine fitness and wellness. Unlike road races that often leave runners drained, trail runs are designed to strike a harmonious balance—challenging enough to test endurance but gentle enough to rejuvenate the spirit.

“Trail runs are not just about physical endurance; they’re about stillness of mind. In nature’s embrace, participants can leave behind the chaos of city life and discover a level of calm and focus that road running simply can’t offer,” said Yashas, Cofounder of Mountain Festival Adventures.

Trail running is emerging as a refreshing alternative to traditional urban marathons, offering an antidote to the stress of modern life. For knowledge workers and corporate professionals looking to break free from their fast-paced routines, the Bengaluru Mountain Festival provided more than just a physical challenge—it delivered an experience of mental clarity, resilience, and community connection.

What Participants Had to Say:

  • Abhishek, Bengaluru, Winner 10K
“Running on mountains has always been special to me, and this trail was no exception. Winning first place in the 10K was an amazing experience! The toughest parts of the trail pushed my limits, testing my willpower in a way only mountain runs can. As a professional MMA fighter, I value challenges that keep me active and engaged, and this trail was exactly that. I’ll never forget the feeling of non-stop movement through the hills. Next time, I’m aiming for the half-marathon—it’s the perfect opportunity to keep growing and pushing myself. I’d recommend trail running to anyone passionate about fitness.”
    Abhishek, Bengaluru, Winner 10K
  • Raghav
“This was my second year running the trail, and it was even better than before. The new route, especially the climb towards the end, made it really exciting. My goal was to finish without pain, but the meditative state the woods put me in was what stood out the most. There’s something about running in nature—seeing the clouds over Nandi Hills and venturing into the woods—that makes it more individualistic than road running. It helps me focus and forget everything else. For me, trail running is a group activity I share with friends, but it’s also deeply personal and calming.”
    Raghav
  • Amber
“The trail run was incredible, especially with the clear blue skies and refreshing weather. Coming around the side of the mountain to see the valley and rocks was a sight I’ll never forget. It’s a tight trail that challenges you, but the benefits are worth it—building muscles you don’t work in the gym or on flat city runs. You need to train for it, but the runner’s high you get is unmatched. Trail running has become a key part of my fitness journey, helping me develop focus and endurance. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a unique challenge.

  • Maitri
“This trail run was both fun and challenging, which is exactly why I signed up. I’ve always been into fitness—boxing, kayaking, trekking—and this is another exciting addition for me. The moment that stood out the most was nearing the finish line, thinking I only had 600 meters left, and then seeing the uphill climb ahead. The adrenaline rush from the tamte drums kept me going and made the experience unforgettable. Trail running pushes you to your limits, but it’s so rewarding. As long as you push yourself and finish the trail, you’ll improve. I’d recommend it to everyone!”
    Maitri
